Will She or won't she?
Fiona reluctantly walked up to Rainbow Ivy. She tried not to look at Shrek knowing that she wouldn't be able to remain calm. She was desperately trying to control her breathing to appear nonchalant, but her heart was hammering away at 100 miles an hour or at least it felt like it. What did he want? How did he find her? These were questions she was going to get an answer to. On the one hand she was kind of flattered he took the trouble to find her, but there were alarms going off. Why would a complete stranger go out of his way to pursue her?
Fiona carefully focusing on Rainbow Ivy gulped nervously: Hi, Rainbow. What brings you here?
Shrek interrupting: So you do know him! Where did you meet him? I want an answer and I am warning ewe!
With that outburst Fiona strangely became more calm and did not deign to answer. Rainbow was here and Shrek wouldn't dare do anything while he was around. She was sure of that. She could tell that Shrek didn't know what to do. She had never seen him so at a loss before and that somehow gave her a feeling of power she had never felt since she had been here.
Rainbow Ivy: Fiona, how good to see you again! I wondered why you didn't come to meet me the other night as we agreed. Rainbow Ivy threw that in knowing it wasn't true just to get under this hideous ogre's green skin. He was miffed at how Shrek had yelled at Fiona. He was a controlling S.O.B. and he already didn't like him. He would be doing Fiona a favor taking her away. Now that he was sure of that, all his reservations fled. Well I was concerned when you didn't come back so I decided to make sure you were ok.
Shrek offended: How dare you come barging in here! Truth be known Shrek had tried to bar him from coming in, but Rainbow Ivy from long experience with people knew how to intimidate them, and one glare from his cold piercing eyes had scared Shrek so much he didn't dare keep him out. Now that he was in the house, Shrek was feeling impotent and that enraged him further. He loathed this man and sensed somehow he was a threat to his future and Fiona. "She has been in this house for over 6 months and I have not laid a finger on her," lied Shrek. Well it had only been once and she provoked him, so he didn't feel it wasn't justified. Not that he would ever let this man know that he had hit her.
Fiona looked at Shrek shocked he would blatantly lie. All of a sudden it came to her, Shrek was afraid of Rainbow Ivy! That flooded her with an exhilaration, and a headiness she didn't ever want to lose. Fiona turned to Shrek, and coolly looked him up and down, as if to say, maybe I might just tell Rainbow Ivy the truth. Her eyes went back to his face and she stared at him coldly. She saw a flicker of fear and knew that he was afraid she would tell Rainbow. She was determined to stare Shrek down. Shrek averted his eyes and mumbled something incoherently. She was elated, she was in control now! Yet strangely a part of her felt pity for Shrek. Pity?! After all he did to her she would feel sorry for him? No!
Rainbow Ivy watched the exchange and smiled. Good for Fiona. He felt the power shift and was amused by it. It looks like the shrinking violet was shrinking no more! This was working out better than he imagined. He probably wouldn't have much work to do convincing her to come with him. He didn't want to have to force her as he genuinely liked this girl, and was loath to make her hate him, but he would if it came to that.
Rainbow Ivy: Fiona I would like to talk to you privately.
Fiona: Of course. We can talk in the dining room.

Shrek angrier now than he ever had been: Fiona, this man is a stranger! I will not allow you to talk to this man alone. Please listen to me. You are my fiancé. We are to be married and rule Ogrid together. I will not let anyone or anything jeopardize that. You must know this man is no good. You shouldn't trust him!
Fiona just stood there looking at him like he was a raving lunatic: Shrek, I will talk to him here in the dining room or we can leave and go somewhere more private.
Shrek saw her more confident and sure of herself than he ever had and was scared. He felt he was losing her. Not that he ever had her, but when she was timid and had no one, she had to rely on him, and now she was realizing she had other options. He didn't know what this man wanted, but he was threatened by him.
Fiona continued to look at Shrek as he was struggling to control his emotions. He knew further anger would alienate her, but he wanted to grab her around her throat and shake some sense into her. Couldn't she see how tupid she was being?

Shrek: Fiona please! You barely know this guy! This is insane! You have no idea what he wants! You are being ridiculous and childish! I mean I know you have done stupid things in the past, but I didn't think you could top yourself! I won't allow this. I am putting my foot down.
Fiona watched Shrek as if she was standing outside of herself. She stood there watching him rant feeling calm. She said nothing, but continued to look at him as if she was seeing him for the first time ever. She was not his! She didn't have to marry him and rule Ogrid! She didn't need him. She could do better. Her father had intended her to marry Shrek, but if he knew what Shrek was like, she knew now that he wouldn't want this for her. With that thought, hope flooded her soul. Maybe Rainbow Ivy was her ticket out. She didn't know, but she was sure going to find out.
Shrek saw the look of calm and dignity in her eyes. She said nothing, and Shrek knew for the first time he could not control her. Threats and anger would only alienate her further.
Shrek looked sadly at Fiona knowing he was defeated. He turned and walked away.
Fiona seeing Shrek so beaten down felt a pang of guilt. Maybe she should tell him she just wanted to talk to Rainbow Ivy and surely there was no harm in that. She shook the thought off. No! He was mean, nasty, over bearing and not deserving of pity! Whatever happened to him it was his fault! With that thought, she turned and led Rainbow Ivy into the dining room. Still she couldn't help but turn back, and see Shrek standing in the doorway of the living room looking sadly at her, and an emotion pricked at her, and she wasn't sure what it was. She glanced one last time at him seeing the pleading in his eyes, and turned to walk into the dining room.
Rainbow Ivy walking over to her: You did the right thing my dear. I promise you, you won't regret it.
Fiona hoped he was right, but now she wasn't so sure.
Rainbow Ivy led her to the table. Sit down my dear we have a lot to talk about.
Fiona sat down and waited for Rainbow Ivy to take a seat. She was almost sure she was doing the right thing, but why then could she not stop looking back at the door and why was she all of a sudden feeling sad?
