She's Gone!
Shrek woke up in a foul mood. He hadn't slept as much as he would have liked thanks to P.U.S.S. interrupting their sleep twice. He was going to skin that cat alive if he saw him today. He had better watch out. That cat was on his bad list, and being tired wasn't helping.
Shrek walked down to the kitchen and saw Barthus there. He hoped his dad wouldn't be annoying as he wasn't in the mood right now. Shrek determined he would try to be pleasant as another argument was the last thing he wanted.
Shrek: Hi dad, I hope you slept well.
Barthus: Hi son. Have you seen Fiona this morning?
Shrek: Nope.
Barthus: Well never mind she can eat later. She is probably sleeping in.

Shrek: Nope.
Barthus: Well never mind she can eat later. She is probably sleeping in.
Barthus: I am not the best cook, but I made some grub waffles. Let's eat.
Shrek: Why isn't Fiona here?
Barthus: How should I know? Well let us eat. I am sure she will be down later. She was awfully tired last night and upset.
Shrek walked to the stairs and yelled up: Fiona! Fiona! Get your butt down here now! If you miss breakfast you won't be allowed to eat until lunch. Shrek waited to hear her reply. When none was forthcoming, he growled and walked into the kitchen to grab his plate. He could have gone up there and dragged her down, but he felt her going hungry would serve her right and he was too hungry himself right now to deal with her.

Barthus: Now Shrek, why did you yell up at Fiona? She isn't a prize sow you are calling to the slop. She is a sensitive, caring ogre. What is your problem? You seem to want to alienate her, and make her hate you.
Shrek: Dad, stop with this. My relationship with Fiona is my business. I don't need you interfering. I will treat her the way she deserves to be treated. If she wants to be treated like an ogre, she better start acting like one. Her behavior toward me after all I have done for her is inexcusable. Frankly I don't care what happens at this point.
Barthus: You do realize Shrek the Ogrid council will be here in about 9 days to present you and Fiona with the key to your castle? We need to have a united front even if just to fool the Ogrids until we can get things fixed between you two.
Shrek: Dad! Please! Get off of it!

Shrek: Dad! Please! Get off of it!
Barthus: No! I will not let it go! You may not like it, but Fiona has been nothing but kind to you or at least she tried to be kind. You were mean and nasty to her. You owe her an apology! It might not have occurred to you Shrek being such a stubborn jack ass, but Fiona might be the only woman that you would ever be able to have or would have you. Do you really relish spending the rest of your life in misery? Oh that's right...... it won't be that long as within 9 days the Ogrids are going to see what a shambles there exists between you two and when they find out there is no way you two will marry, that will be the end of us. Honestly Shrek! I haven't asked that much of you in this life. All I wanted was to find you a good woman to love you and make you happy and this is how you repay me?
Shrek: DAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!
Barthus: Please son. Try to mend bridges. You can do it. I have known you to be very kind and caring when you put yourself out to be.
Shrek: DAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!
Barthus: Please son. Try to mend bridges. You can do it. I have known you to be very kind and caring when you put yourself out to be.
Shrek snorted derisively: Me apologize? For what? She is the one who is wrong. No dad, she owes me one. End of story. I won't apologize. Now lets eat.
Barthus was angry now angrier than he thought he could ever be: Shrek! I am ashamed to call you my son. I know I raised you better than this. I have never been so ashamed of your selfishness in my whole life. You could have lived happily ever after with a loving kind ogress who if you had given her half a chance, would have thrown herself at you with her whole heart. Instead you decided that living alone feeling sorry for yourself is what you want. You are pathetic. If it wasn't for the danger we are all in I would just walk away and never see you again!
Shrek: Oh you are talking about the danger you put us all in and told me about afterwards? Good job dad! You know what you can do with your danger talk. Go ahead just leave me alone. I will have Rainbow Ivy take Fiona away, and I can go somewhere else. Don't worry I won't tell you where I am going, and you don't have to tell me where you are going, so if the Ogrids catch up to us we won't have to worry about ratting each other out.
Barthus had forgotten about Rainbow Ivy. How could he tell Shrek in this foul mood? No they would eat first and then he would tell him.
Barthus had forgotten about Rainbow Ivy. How could he tell Shrek in this foul mood? No they would eat first and then he would tell him.
Shrek and Barthus sat down and wolfed down the grub waffles. The food seemed to help Shrek feel better. Maybe dad was right. Maybe he should try to work things out, but how? Was there any way to make it up to her? Maybe he should get tips from Barthus. After all it would please his dad no end to be the peace maker.
After cleaning up the dishes, Barthus was thinking how he could tell Shrek about Rainbow Ivy. He decided that there was no easy way to say it, but just come right out with it.
Barthus: Um Shrek?
Shrek: Yes dad. What is it?
Barthus: I am afraid there is something else I never told you.
Shrek glowering ominously: Really father? Now why doesn't that surprise me? Hmmm what could it be? I know I am not really an ogre right? You aren't my father and Fiona is desperately in love with me, but just can't see it? Is it something along those lines father?
Barthus: Now Shrek, there is no reason to be mad. I never told you what I am about to tell you as I never thought it would be necessary.
Shrek: Oh kind of like how you didn't think it was necessary to tell me about the contract you made with the Ogrids?
Barthus: Come on Shrek, Stop being so unreasonable.
Shrek rolled his eyes: Get on with it dad.
Barthus: The other day you told me that Rainbow Ivy showed up here, and you were thinking of telling Fiona to go with him. I should have told you then, but you were so upset I didn't want to make matters worse. I was hoping I could avoid telling you. The truth is I know Rainbow Ivy. He was the one who your mother ran off with. He blamed me for his wife's suicide because she was in love with me and I didn't reciprocate. After she killed herself Rainbow Ivy vowed revenge and he stole your mother away. Ever since that happened even having got his revenge against me he hates all ogres and can't be trusted.
Shrek: You knew this and yet failed to tell me? Why do I always get necessary information when it is almost too late. Fiona I think is seriously thinking of going with this man, and I don't know at this point if I could stop her!
Barthus: You have to Shrek! I don't care if you have to tie her up..........
Shrek suddenly saw an envelope on the table. That wasn't there last night, he was sure of it. He woodenly walked over to pick it up. He opened it up with shaking hands. He read the note and turned white, well at least as white as an ogre can be.
Shrek looked totally appalled.
Barthus: Shrek what is it? Shrek!
Shrek quietly: She did it. She really did it.
Barthus: What is it Shrek?
Shrek woodenly: It is a note in Fiona's handwriting. She says she is going away with Rainbow Ivy and we are not to come looking for her. She needs to find her own life, as her being here has only caused everyone misery. I don't believe it. I know I told her to go, but I never thought she would really do it.
Barthus had never been more scared in his life. He had never seen Shrek look so terrible. Had he gone insane?
Shrek: Dad! She can't have done it. She couldn't have. Why would she have left with a perfect stranger?
Shrek took off running up stairs. He ran into the bedroom hoping to find her there and that this was all a bad dream. It was like he thought though, she wasn't there.
Barthus came panting after him.
Shrek in a panic: Dad she did it!
Shrek: P.U.S.S wasn't trying to torture me! He was trying to warn me!
Barthus slowly comprehension dawned on his face as well: P.U.S.S. was warning you that Fiona was being taken by Rainbow Ivy. Isn't that what you are saying?
Shrek: It wasn't unusual for P.U.S.S. to come in and wake me up, but if I hadn't been so angry and half asleep, I would have realized that P.U.S.S. likes you and he never would have just woken you up for no reason. He saw Fiona leaving with Rainbow Ivy.
Barthus: Oh this is terrible! How could you have been so stupid? You practically threw her into the arms of a very dangerous enemy. This is important son. Did you ever mention my name to Rainbow Ivy? Did you?
Shrek: I don't remember. I don't think so. I could have!
Barthus: When will you start using the brains given to you? If Fiona is with Rainbow Ivy and he doesn't know who she is, maybe she can charm him which is doubtful. If he realizes that she is the fiancé of Barthus's son Shrek, she won't have a chance. It would give Rainbow Ivy no small amount of pleasure to take the future daughter in law of mine and make her life hell. How could you have let this happen?
Shrek: Well gee dad, It is kind of hard to know what to do when I never get the pertinent need to know information until after something happens! Besides this is her choice. I think she will be ok. She obviously left with him willingly. Read the letter for yourself.
Barthus: So you want to believe. This letter proves nothing. Rainbow Ivy could have forced her to write it you know.
Shrek turned to his dad and got a look of fear. Yeah what if his dad was right? That meant she was a prisoner of Rainbow Ivy a man who hated ogres with his whole being. And he would not stop at nothing to take out his hatred on a helpless ogre like Fiona.
Shrek thinking: No, she had to go willingly. Didn't I tell her to go? But he had just told her that yesterday. She couldn't have contacted him could she have? Of course she could have. He snorted. No, she left willing. Now it was her own misfortune if something happened to her. He was tired to death of this whole situation.
Barthus thinking: If Rainbow Ivy didn't know Fiona was his future daughter in law, what reason could he have had for having taking Fiona? Sure she was an ogre, but there were lots of ogre's in Ogrid, and yet Rainbow Ivy was in this town where they were the only ogres here. If he wanted revenge against ogre's wouldn't he go to Ogrid? No, he wanted something with Fiona. Yet what? They had to figure out why he wanted Fiona and quick. The Ogrid delegation was due in 9 days, and out of everything that Barthus was afraid could have happened, he never could have imagined this in a million years.
Barthus: Shrek we need to go after them.
Shrek: How dad? We have no idea how long ago they left, their destination or direction they took. It would be like looking for a pin head in a haystack. Shrek didn't know what they were going to do. He had wanted Fiona to leave for her own sake, but he never would have told her to go if he had known about Rainbow Ivy. Darn his dad! When this was all over, he was going to cut his dad out of his life. This was too much.
Barthus wringing his hands: Shrek we have to try. Come let us grab Donkey and go look for her.
Shrek turned to his dad: No, I don't care what you do, but I am done. She is gone and good riddance! I don't care about the Ogrid delegation. I think when they hear the circumstances they will understand.
Barthus: No Shrek, I signed that contract with my own blood. That means if the contract is broken blood must be shed, our blood. If we don't find Fiona, nine days from now they will be dragging our dead corpses through the street.
Shrek gulped: Well there is nothing to be done. What happens is out of our hands now.
Barthus sadly: I knew you could be mean and cruel, but I never knew you could be so cold-blooded Shrek. From this point onward you are no longer my son. Barthus walked away. I will go find Fiona myself. I will ask her to forgive me, and I will marry her. Maybe the Ogrids will accept me in your place if I marry Fiona. Yes, that is what I will do.
Shrek: Dad, you can't do that. I love Fiona. You would do this to your only son?
Barthus looked at Shrek coldly: Son? No, you are wrong I had a son once, but not any more.
Shrek looked at his dad appalled. Was he saying what he thought he was saying?
Shrek: You don't mean that do you?
Barthus: Yes.
With that he walked upstairs got dressed and walked out the door.
Shrek angry yelled after him: Fine! At least you won't be able to run my life and make me miserable anymore. I don't care if I never see you again. I don't need you, I don't need Fiona, I don't need anyone! You hear me No one!
Barthus turned with a dead look in his eyes one last time: Well that is good Shrek, because you no longer have anyone. I hope you are happy alone.
Shrek growled and mumbled angrily: I don't care. I don't need the trouble you and Fiona brought into my life. P.U.S.S finally tramped downstairs and came up to Shrek. P.U.S.S looked at him sadly. He missed Fiona. He mewed softly. Shrek picked up P.U.S.S. and gently rubbed his back. Thank you P.U.S.S. for trying to warn us. I am sorry. so very sorry. P.U.S.S. uncomfortable wriggled out of Shrek's grasp. As Shrek watched P.U.S.S walk away he buried his head in his hands and cried. He knew now he truly was all alone.
Shrek: Yes dad. What is it?
Barthus: I am afraid there is something else I never told you.
