Fiona's Bad Day
Fiona walked into the park and spotted a bench. She hadn't realized how tired she was until now. Fiona settled on the bench and pulled out a book. She carried one on her person at all times. Reading brought her comfort, and she never knew when she would need one. This book promised to be really good.
Fiona absorbed in her book didn't at first see some men approaching. Even if she had, she had no reason to worry.
The man came and sat next to her on the bench and started snickering.
Unable to continue to read her book at the man's rudeness she put it away.
Fiona sat there hoping the man would go away.
Finally not being able to take it anymore she confronted him.
Fiona: Sir, I don't think we have had the pleasure of introductions, so I was wondering why you sit here snickering at me? Do you find something funny? Have I done anything to cause you amusement?
Man: No, but I don't like your kind, and you are in for it.

Fiona wondered what he was talking about. Why was she in for it?
Another man had by now approached and was addressing her in a none to friendly tone.
Fiona looked up at him wondering why he was talking to her like that.
Second man: Excuse me, you aren't allowed to sit here. This park is not for you.
Fiona perplexed: I am sorry if somehow I have caused you any distress, but parks in my experience are for everyone to enjoy. I mean no harm, and ask that I be left alone.
Second man: Look. Don't get insolent with me. Your kind is not welcome here or anywhere, and I suggest you leave, before you regret it.

At this point Fiona saw another man approach. All at once she became more than nervous. He looked at her less than friendly.
As she continued sitting on the bench refusing to be intimidated more men approached.
Fiona seeing how many men had approached decided that maybe the better part of valor would be to leave, so she stood up. The men started yelling at her and cursing.
Fiona having had enough after the last few days became angry. Her life was a mess, and she had no place to call her own, and now she had found one, and these men wanted to take it from her for no reason?
Fiona was becoming very scared, but wasn't going to give these men the satisfaction of showing it.
Fiona: Look this is a free country and I am not hurting you. You best leave me alone or my fiancé will make you pay.
Second man: Well, well this one has some s punk I see. I like s punk. He leered at her menacingly. She isn't a bad looker for one of them either.
Third man: Stop it. You know to be with them is forbidden and considered perversion.
Fiona resented them referring to her objectively like an object.
Fiona: For your information my name is not "one of them", but Fiona, so if you are going to talk about me at least use my name.

Another man: Your kind ain't human and so don't have names. I am going to call you ugly witch.
Fiona not willing yet to back down: I am a lady sir, and I ask that you treat me as one.
The men started to surround her.
A man snickered and mimicked her: I am a lady sir, and I ask that you treat me as one.
They all laughed.

Fiona feeling weak fell back on the bench. She had never been so frightened in her life.
Man: Men, do any of you see a lady here? All men shook their heads. I know I don't see anything, but a hideous, disgusting freak of nature. I guess you will have to be taught a lesson that when we tell you something you need to obey.
Fiona desperately fought down her fear. They sensed her fear and were feeding off it like sharks off of a slab of meat.
Fiona voice shaking stood up: Well guys it has been nice knowing you, but I must be going.
Third Man snarling: You aren't going anywhere.

Third Man snarling: You aren't going anywhere.
With that his hands reached out for her throat.
Fiona felt herself wrestled to the ground.
To Fiona's horror this man was serious. He was trying to kill her, and the other men were standing around cheering him on. He kept trying to put his hands around her throat.
He succeeded in getting his hands around her throat and seemed determined to choke her. She struggled desperately gasping for breath. She was overwhelmed with terror. She felt herself starting to feel faint her eyes bulging out.
Fiona didn't know how, but she managed to get out of the choke hold and somehow in her desperation found herself facing him. She raised her hands and flailed at him wildly. She found her strength ebbing, but her life depended on fighting. Her desperation gave her renewed strength to fight him off.
She was in agony. He wouldn't stop hitting her and trying to get her in another choke hold. She couldn't hold out much more. Fiona all of a sudden felt like giving up. She was tired. Was the life she had really worth fighting for? She felt that it wasn't. She sagged in his arms willing for him to finish her off.
The man feeling her start to sag in his arms decided to let her go. He disliked her kind, but he was no killer at heart. He just wanted her to leave and never come back. He felt certain after this she wouldn't dare to.
Fiona to her amazement found herself on the ground. She was relieved to feel pain as this signaled she was still alive. She slowly got up her body screaming in agony.
Third man: I never want to see you here again. You are a parasite and we want nothing to do with your kind. Now go!
Fiona stumbled forward, but her legs wouldn't cooperate.

Fiona stumbled forward, but her legs wouldn't cooperate.
The man lunged at her again to scare her and propel her on, but this time Fiona didn't care. If he was going to kill her let him do it and be done with it. She couldn't fight anymore. She didn't have the strength to even leave right now.
To her surprise he just laughed and taunted her. Oh look the poor beast doesn't want to play anymore. The other men called her filthy names she had never heard in her life. They even made suggestive comments and gestures of what they would do to her if she ever came back. Fiona being innocent having never been with a man, couldn't even comprehend what they were talking about, but it sounded horrible.

Fiona's strength finally coming back not being able to bear anymore of those suggestive comments took off running screaming at the top of her lungs. Even as she ran she felt ashamed. She had always considered herself a strong person, and here she was running away with her tail between her legs and all she could do was scream like a weak woman. She would never forgive herself for being so afraid.
As she ran she stopped distressed. She had to pause to compose herself. She gasped for breath and gathered her thoughts. Her mind was in a whirl. Why did those guys hate her? What had she done? It didn't make sense.
Fear overtaking her again afraid the men were coming after her Fiona took off running.
She was running toward home, toward Shrek. Ironically the place she had come to hate because of the security it provided and smothered her with was the only place she wanted to be. The world was a cruel dangerous place and for the first time she realized that maybe what she had in Shrek's house was worth fighting for.
She ran faster toward home, toward safety, and toward Shrek. What she would find there when she got back she didn't know, but whatever it was, it had to be better than being out here. She just hoped that she wasn't wrong.
